A Little Slice of Paradise
Looking out from your room to the amazing view of the ocean framed by ancient trees you might well feel you are in a secluded wilderness area. In fact, Bostrom’s B&B is just a short walk from fine cuisine in top notch restaurants, charming fish and chip shops, spas, an aquarium, and delightful finds in the many shops and art galleries in the tiny village of Ucuelet.
Situated on km 3.5 of the Wild Pacific Trail, you can walk in either direction to meet up with the magnificent coastal trail that wanders through the succulent rain forest, past beaches, the bell buoy, the whistle buoy, and the lighthouse. The trail is now 10 km and trail construction hopes to have it join Long Beach before long. The Japanese have a word “shinrinyoku” which translates as "forest bathing. This is the word that for me comes closest to describing the experience offered walking through this unique trail whether that be sun bathing or enjoying the “wet” coast experience with the full rain gear provided.
Though there are many beaches within a short walk from your room, the magnificent long sandy beaches and hiking trail of the Pacific Rim National Park Long Beach are only a 10 minute drive. The largest beach, Long Beach, is divided into various other beaches like Wickaninnish Beach and Florencia Bay, by the terrain, the history, or the access roads in from the Park. Beach comb, build sandcastles, fly kites, play Frisbee, or simply stare out into the ocean, breathing fresh air charges with oxygen from the surf and trees that surround you. A delight to the senses, you can see, taste, hear, and feel the power of the surf charging towards the beach.
With Long Beach to the West and the Broken Group Islands to the East, Ucluelet is sandwiched between two sections of the Pacific Rim National Park. Kayak through the calm waters in the Broken Group Islands while eagles call above and the whales jump in the distance. Wildlife tours take you on unforgettable boat rides amongst the islands spotting whales (gray, humpback, and orca), sea lions, sea otters, and a myriad of sea birds.
The variety and abundance of marine life and wild life, combined with the ocean and lush forest makes Ucluelet a first class destination. Some activities enjoyed in the area are: scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, whale watching, bear watching, surfing, ocean kayaking, surf kayaking, wakeboarding, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, birding, golfing, spa excursions, and my favorite; listening to the breath of the ocean roll back and forth and staying to watch the tide go in and out.
The winters bring magnificent storms and what better place to watch them from than the delicious warmth of the hot tub, the spacious inside accommodations of Bostrom's B&B, or feel the thrill of the surge and the spray on your face from the secure vantage of the waterfront deck. No matter what the season Bostrom's Bed and Breakfast is your retreat into an outdoor adventure, a romantic getaway, or a place to relax and rejuvenate.
Your hosts: the Bostrom’s.
Gary has always lived on the West Coast with his roots in the small fishing community of Kyuquot. Once a commercial fisher, Gary now spends his time scuba diving, sports fishing, and building facilities from which to enjoy and share his home with others. During the summer months, Gary has a "job" ferrying kayaks out to the Broken Island Group. After whale watching and dropping off his new friends he dives or goes fishing before picking the folk up at the end of the day. This, he swears is "work". Judy, having grown up in the semi-arid climate of Cranbrook, has lived on the West Coast for 30 years. Inviting quests into her home has given her fresh insight into the area as its magic is continually recreated through the eyes and experiences of visitors. We look forward to your visits and hope to see you come up over the horizon really soon.
